'Golf Ball' Light Bulb
45mm 240v 7W ES Opal
If you have tried to buy any 'pearl' or 'opal' domestic light bulbs recently, you may have noticed that they are few and far between !
This is because most retailers are now implementing the Directive from the EU Parliament which has banned the manufacture of virtually all incandescent frosted bulbs from 1st September 2009 and clear bulbs which are not category C or better energy rating will be phased out over the following 4 years.
This means that with the Directive in force, with stocks becoming exhausted, retailers in the EU will no longer be able to supply bulbs with a frosted, opal, pearl or other opaque finish unless they are category A energy savers.
The main losers will be household bulbs such as candles, golfball, globes and standard light bulbs.
With current technology, this effectively means that the only bulbs which will be available are the compact fluorescent technology or LED.
However, there are some exceptions. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, confirmed that 'industrial light bulbs' were exempt from the ban, for the moment.
Unfortunately, as normal manufacture is all about 'volume', these bulb are now 'specialist' items and this is likely to have an impact on their cost.
As always, we will endeavour to purchase the best product at the best price.
